From Trench to Structure: A Visual Record of the Raw Materiality of the Construction Process

In this construction site report, Pedro Queiroga documents with rigour and visual intensity every stage of an ambitious infrastructure and civil engineering project. The composition of each frame reveals the raw materiality of the construction process — the red clay of open trenches, the coldness of structural concrete, the weight of large-diameter pipes and the precision of steel reinforcement bars that define the skeleton of the future building. Under a Mediterranean light that lends the scenes an almost dramatic, cinematic quality, the images alternate between the underground work of HDPE pipe installation and the vertical progression of masonry and reinforced concrete structures. The fluid transitions between different construction levels — from flooded trenches to elevated formwork platforms — convey the scale and technical complexity of the project. Skilled workers appear in full action, handling lifting equipment and precision tools, lending a human dimension to a large-scale engineering and architecture undertaking.
